The coaches thank you for your continued support throughout this very successful season.
As most of you have heard, softball suffered a heart breaking loss on Friday. The girls lost in the state semi-finals 2-1 to Forest Ocala (the 2015 state champs). The game went into extra innings, and in the top of the 8th our girls took the lead 1-0…But as the inning carried into the bottom of the 8th, Forest successfully got a runner on and the next batter ended the game with a walk-off 2 run homer. The game could not have been more evenly matched… with each team collecting 5 hits…our pitcher collecting 9 Ks, while theirs collected 10 Ks. It was truly a battle to the finish! I could not be more proud of my girls and their efforts this weekend. Thank you to everyone for your support!
Last night your Lady Knights Softball Team sent shockwaves throughout the softball community. The girls faced #1 in the state Gainesville High, with a record of 24-1, and defeated them 4-2. Kelsey Sweatt gutted out a performance on the mound, pushing through pain, holding the hurricanes to 4 hits…Also collecting 3 straight strikeouts in the bottom of the 7th to seal the game. Alexis Goyette started the game off with a big hit, advancing over on a bunt from Haley Willis-Corlew… driven to third by Mika Garcia…and brought home on a beautiful squeeze by Gina Eller. Alexis was 2 for 4 with a run, and Mika Garcia was 2 for 3 with a run. Destiny Pacetti, and Rebecca Koskey, both collected a hit and an RBI a piece. Danyelle Duckworth, and Tracey Ferguson also collected a run each.
Last night’s win advances the girls to the District Championship, and solidifies a birth to the regionals. The District Championship is this Thursday vs. Columbia High School, in Lake City.
